So, here it is, the tracklist of the new LORDI-album "The Arockalypse". You may wonder why the hell track #2 and #7 are not mentioned. Well, these songs have to be kept as a secret because of the participation in the Finnish preliminary decision to the Eurovision Songcontest for a little while. But as soon we are allowed to we will inform you!
As we have mentioned before, the founding member of TWISTED SISTER, Jay Jay French, and the infamous frontman himself, Dee Snider, are doing guest appearances on the forthcoming LORDI-album.
Dee Snider has recorded his part for the album's intro, entitled "SCG3 Special Report". Mr. Snider appears on the track as the monstersquad's spokesman. "The opening intro is not your typical album intro. It is more like radio theatre...!" says Mr. Lordi. "It's over three minutes long and it sets the mood for "The Arockalypse". And who would be more suitable to raise heavy rock hell with us than Dee Snider. We are thrilled to have him."
Jay Jay French plays the solo on a song called "Chainsaw Buffét". He plays the main part of the solo, while Amen opens the solo part and closes it as well. "After our very first LORDI-gig, live review in some magazine compared my playing to Jay Jay's" says Amen. "He's a true heavy rock legend, I'm sure that everyone will hear it when his solo kicks in."
The song's lyrical concept is about a cannibal family. "I got my inspiration from the "Texas Chainsaw Massacre". What if you were a girl, and you were dating the leatherface? Would you go and meet your boyfriend's family for a dinner?" explains Mr. Lordi.
Two further Very Special Guests on the next LORDI-album "The Arockalypse" will be Dee Snider and Jay Jay French from TWISTED SISTER. Soon we will present further details of their involvement...
The band is proud to announce that 'The Arockalypse' will feature appearances by Bruce Kulick and Udo Dirkschneider!
"The German Tank", the voice of ACCEPT, Mr. Udo Dirkschneider is coming to visit the band in the studio this week. He will contribute his distinctive voice to the song called 'They Only Come Out At The Night'.
"Udo has my absolute favourite heavy metal voice", says Mr. Lordi. "I saw U.D.O. on the 'Animal House' -tour in 1998. I was there in the first row, and since that I've been to every single U.D.O. and Accept gig in Finland. His voice has influenced me a lot. I'm sure that some fans may have noticed how I sometimes desperately try to imitate his singing style.." Mr. Lordi laughs.
Bruce Kulick, KISS's lead guitarist for 12 years, member of Grand Funk Railroad, Union and ESP, will play the solo on the song called 'Snowing In Hell'.
"We are all huge KISS fans, so to co-operate with a legend like Mr. Kulick is the greatest honor we could get!" Amen says eagerly. "I remember when I was a kid and I saw KISS's video 'Who Wants To Be Lonely' where Bruce Kulick is playing a solo in a shower. Well, of course I wanted to be like him! Me and my friends went to my parent's garden, and while the others spurted water all over me I was playing a guitar - it was a lot of fun!" Amen laughs. "This is something I never could have imagined, even in my wildest dreams. To play guitar on the same track with Bruce Kulick is just unbeliavable".
"Without KISS, we wouldn't have our little band", continues Mr. Lordi. "I grew up in the 80's, and I grew up with KISS with Bruce in the group. So, for me personally in some way, Bruce Kulick is the 'real' lead guitarist of KISS..! Also, KISS's musical influence on Lordi comes primarily from the eighties line-up".
The band pays their respects to Mr. Kulick and Mr. Dirkschneider, and more special guests are coming to join The Arockalypse - stay online!
Lordi is invited to join in the eurovision song contest's Finnish competition. After some hesitation, the band decided to give it a go.
"It will not take away our 'rock credibility', in fact, we're bringing the rock credibility to the whole thing", says Kita.
"People are not stupid, they've simply just been offered crap before", continues Mr. Lordi, "We are not entering the contest to win, we are doing this kick some serious ass. We have not yet decided the songs that'll enter, but they are from the upcoming album. So, from our point of view, it is just free pr, if nothing more!"
The Finnish competition will take place in January, and it will be televised.
LORDI have finished the main recordings last friday, but Kita and Mr. Lordi will still be working on the album´s intropart this week. Producer Jyrki Tuovinen started mixing the first songs on Monday.
Meanwhile, one of the forthcoming album´s very special guests is recording his part in the US, while another will come to Finland and visit the band in the studio. "We´re soooo excited about this, and honoured as hell!!!", says Mr. Lordi, "But we will not quite yet reveal the names... I´ve visited our forum, and some of the guesses there were pretty close... or not, hahahaha!"
NEW COSTUMES
LORDI will dress up in brand new costumes next year. Everything will be re-done from head to toe. The band says that it is nice to leave behind the "somewhat interresting" odor of the old costumes. The rumour has it that Amen will be losing a lot of "clothes". Girls, you´ve been warned.
FIRST RUSSIA, THEN SURPRISE
The band will shortly visit Russia to play two shows, in Moscow and in St. Petersburg. "It is a really welcomed change in the studio-routine, we´ll experiment how the russian vodka will affect the finnish monsters", the band says.
Right after the band comes back, they will reveal a surprise that´ll drop the jaws of fans and foes alike. Be aware!
LORDI are in the middle of the recordings of their forthcoming album with producer Jyrki Tuovinen. The working title for the record is "The Arockalypse", which may or may not be the final one.
At the moment Mr. LORDI is doing his lead vocals. Also this week KITA is singing the main harmonies for the backing vocals. AMEN will hit the booth with his solos next week, and he is most likely going to have some help from one of the bands all-time heroes(!).
The band is working on 13 songs, with one or two of them probably ending up as b-sides. Some of the titles are "Bringing Back The Balls To Rock", "Evilove", "The Night Of The Loving Dead", "The Chainsaw Buffet" and "Good To Be Bad".
